"I saw, to my horror, an artfully worn, older-than-me copy of Proust by Samuel Beckett. If there existed a more hackneyed, achingly obvious method of telegraphing one's education, literary standards and general intelligence, I couldn't imagine it."Augusten Burroughs, quoted in a New York Times article on reading habits and dating.

It's not an academic habit to admit you haven't read something, but I was unfamliar with Beckett's "Proust," so I researched it (read: looked it up on the internet), sounds very interesting.
I got the Beckett book last year but haven't yet read it.
