Elegance? I suppose one could say that. But I’d say dignity and humility and magnanimity. The note that George H.W. Bush left for Bill Clinton seems like an artifact from a lost America.

I shudder to think what the present occupant of the office may leave behind if and when he vacates the premises.
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous-spirited note––I am especially touched by how Bush underlined "_our_ president" (not transcribed, unfortunately--it says a lot)––but I wouldn't call it elegant.
ReplyDeleteI'd take out those "verys" and "just", for starters.
But... who cares? It doesn't matter.
