This American Life has retracted its story “Mr. Daisey and the Apple Factory.” The short explanation: “many of Mike Daisey’s experiences in China were fabricated.” Or in the active voice: he lied.

This was known to those who have a wide sceptical streak furrowing our thoughts. That same scepticism applies to both major parties, to newspaper editorials and to alarmists of all sorts. The real answer to many questions is: Isn't your life rather swell, all things considered? Ours are. Could be better, but it sure as heck could be worse. Cheers.
