Good for the people of Ohio! My view is that even a true fiscal conservative should have voted No on 2 (as I would have done). If what the governor says about the state's finances is true (which should be apparent to anyone who can read and income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement), the last thing he needs to do is make enemies of those who work in state government. If people are going to have to be laid off or have their benefits cut, they should at least be allowed to preserve more than a shred of dignity in the process.
I wish I cared as much as you nice folks do. I think it's just numbers. Some places have declared bankruptcy, some contemplate it, and many will be. Some municipal and state governments have laid folks off because of revenues declining, some are thinking about it and many will be. The cheering or booing about a measure like this is just like a visit to the popcorn stand in the middle of a double feature movie, from my cycnical perspective. The full "entertainment" isn't finsihed yet. What will be will be. I predict from the numbers that public workers will be laid off in larger numbers, pensions will begin to be cut and so on. The only questions remaining are: 1) where? ...and 2) when?
