David Souter and Proust

"Have you read Proust?" he asked me during an unsuccessful clerkship interview years ago, and then wistfully said he wished he could take a year off to teach a college seminar on Proust and Henry Adams.

  1. This post reminds me of your April 27th reference to Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi." The more I learn about Justice Souter on the eve of his retirement--he doesn't own a television or a cell phone, for instance--the more I wish he'd stick around.
