One of twelve new Forever Stamps from the United States Postal Service: “Pioneers of Industrial Design.” Here’s a press release with details. And here’s a PDF with biographies of the designers.

Michael Leddy“Orange Crate Art” is a song by Van Dyke Parks and the title of a 1995 album by Van Dyke Parks and Brian Wilson. “Orange Crate Art” is for me one of the great American songs: “Orange crate art was a place to start.”

I saw a phone just like that one last weekend, at an antique shop. The handset alone weighed as much as my laptop.
Yes, they were built to last. My grandparents had a phone like that for years and years.
