In a parking lot, a discussion of condensed soups:

"I always take the straight-up noodle."

I'm thinking of taking this up for use in everyday situations.

Q. Would you prefer the cheaper version?
A. No thanks, I always take the straight up noodle.

Crritic! is right, what a terrific expression. Why do I only ever hear stuff like, 'Well, you know, then he said, you know...'

I kinda think of this expression as referring to whatever is plainest, simplest -- not a fancier soup like Campbell's Chicken Noodle-o's (or however it's spelled), just the straight-up noodle. Usage may vary by continent!

I try to keep my radar on, but I hear something like this very seldom. Usually it's "I'm, like" and "he's, like" and "she's, like."

It just goes to show you, the world is far more Freudian than we realise.

Or at least East- Central Illinois :)

Yes, this overheard remark seemed to call for some context in the post itself: soup talk. Soup! : )
